THE HISTORY OF BUTLER VOLUNTEER FIRE COMPANY, INC.
The Butler Volunteer Fire Company was organized December 8, 1953 to
provide adequate fire protection to an area on the fringe of existing companies.
It was chartered March 22, 1954 as the Butler Volunteer Fire Company, Baltimore County, Maryland, Inc.
Mr. Will Davis and his sister May donated the lands on which the first temporary station and this new station are situated. These lands have been occupied by the Davis family since 1732. The location is a strategic one, being near the juncture of the principal roads serving the area

A 1934 Seagrave pumper was purchased in July of 1954 and remodeled
by the members to suit local requirements. This engine responded to the first
call, a chimney fire, March 9, 1955.
The year 1956 was noteworthy. In January, the company was admitted to the Baltimore County Volunteer Firemen's Association. In July, 1956 a fire fighting jeep was purchased, and on August 18, 1956, the fledgling company won the Baltimore County Pumping Contest with the old Seagrave.

A new, modern pumper, an International 200 with an American Marsh
pump rated at 750 GPM was purchased May 7, 1958. Placement of this
apparatus in service merited certification of the company by the Maryland
Fire Underwriters Bureau on May 19, 1958. This effected a fire insurance
reduction on all property within a radius of four miles by accessible road.
Since that time, as a direct result of improved protection, the radius covered
by the fire insurance reduction has been increased to five miles.
With the acquisition of this new equipment, the company outgrew its
original quarters and a fund drive was instituted in October of 1958 to provide
adequate quarters for the equipment and a social hall for fund raising and
community activities. In the same month the company joined the Maryland
State Volunteer Firemen's Association.
The fund drive culminated in the erection of this modern station, designed by Lincoln Norcott Hall and erected by Ira C. Rigger, Inc. The station was dedicated August 6, 1960 with appropriate ceremonies. A portion of the dedication program read as follows-
"This building is erected in the public service, more especially the fire service, dedicated to the protection of life and property."
"May it be ever so".
